THE WORK
Kunze’s recent Bouquet paintings are an exciting interpretation of this classic subject.
With her simplistic composition, Sandy looks to capture the rawness, and explicitly, the freshness of the bouquet. To conjure the feel of the florist’s shop, the inelegance of the bouquet before it finds a home.
Sandy lays down a moody pallet of abstract colour on a natural wooden panel; this forms the foundation, at which point she builds an impressionistic representation of the classic bouquet. These opposing concepts unite to form an unrefined interplay between randomness and intention; the two worlds collide in a splash of pigment.
The flowers are always live and fresh to capture their essence and thereby their immortality...before they end up in the compost heap.
